Velvet Chestnut

Velvet Chestnut, 2014

Since being honored by the Trey Whitfield Foundation, I have been pursuing my degree in higher education at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. I wanted to make the most of this academic experience joining several clubs, extra curriculums, and becoming an involved student on my university campus. I am a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity, Student Government, QTHON, and the Albert Schweitzer Institute. My most recent endeavors include a six-month journey of traveling around the world for the spring semester of my junior year. I began my journey in Bogota, Colombia, representing Quinnipiac as the Student Leader of Youth Delegates at the 16th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. Following this event, I set out to begin my semester abroad in Brisbane, Australia studying at the University of Queensland. Study abroad has allowed me to realize just how much I have grown over the years. Handling trials and tribulations on the other side of the world without your family at times can be difficult, but with a strong foundation you will get through everything life throws at you. Trey Whitfield School and the Trey Whitfield School Foundation provided this foundation; without this family, I would not have come as far as I am today. Thank you for believing in me, and congratulations on your Sliver Anniversary!
